Ghost tasks for gaia 4
(Message 672)
Posted 8 Dec 2024 by entity Post: I can confirm that. However, within the last 30 minutes or so I have been sent about 50 WUs. They seem to be new ones and not resends. I'm not quite understanding how I get messages indicating no work for 4_Gaia for hours and yet server status indicates 20,000 or more waiting to send. Yes, I understand that the server status only updates about once an hour but it still doesn't make sense unless that 20,000 is sent out within minutes of the status update. However, with only about 80 users, I'm a little skeptical. |

Ghost tasks for gaia 4
(Message 665)
Posted 5 Dec 2024 by entity Post: At 23:15 UTC the server status screen showed about 6600 tasks waiting to send for 4_Gaia. At 23:19 I get: Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:32 PM CST | Gaia@home | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:32 PM CST | Gaia@home | Reporting 1 completed tasks Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:32 PM CST | Gaia@home | Requesting new tasks for CPU Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | No tasks sent Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | No tasks are available for 1_Gaia@home Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | No tasks are available for 3_Gaia@home Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | No tasks are available for 5_Gaia@home Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | No tasks are available for 1018_Gaia@home Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | No tasks are available for 1000_Gaia@home Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | No tasks are available for 1011_Gaia@home Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | No tasks are available for 1001_Gaia@home Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | No tasks are available for 4_Gaia@home Thu 05 Dec 2024 05:19:33 PM CST | Gaia@home | Project requested delay of 7 seconds I can't get enough to keep the systems active. Will probably have to implement a 0 weight project to get work during the dry times. |

Posted 3 Dec 2024 by entity Post: I would also like an app selection in preferences. I am near my WUProp hours goal for Gaia 6 so will no longer want those tasks. I would like the app selection feature as well. I will hit the 100,000 hour goal this morning and will then move to another project until the selection feature becomes available. |

Posted 30 Nov 2024 by entity Post: I'm just disappointed that the several minute run time of the Gaia 4 tasks interrupted several hour Gaia 6 tasks, and thus restarted from 0, due to the shorter deadline. I would propose that the Gaia 6 tasks are still running regardless of what BOINC Manager says. Unfortunately, It's been my experience that Gaia 6 tasks don't honor suspension requests from BOINC. EDIT: Yep, just confirmed that I have 41 Gaia processes running (both 4 and 6) on a 32 thread machine even though BOINC Manager says 9 are "waiting to run" |

Posted 27 Oct 2024 by entity Post: I also see gaia tasks continuing to run after suspend, top (linux) shows them taking cpu. I doubled checked and the processes using the CPU all begin with the small 'g'. Previously, I suspended some tasks to clear out some old work and that's when I noticed the elongated run times. Overnight, the BOINC client suspended some Gaia tasks because other tasks were getting close to the deadline and Gaia is now sitting in the "waiting to run" state. However, the processes don't stop running. If one runs multiple projects concurrently this will potentially cause problems as other tasks miss deadlines. I'm going to try and "clean up the mess" and then run Gaia exclusively. This non-suspend problem really should be looked at when possible but until that time contributors need to be aware of potential issues |

Posted 26 Oct 2024 by entity Post: To be honest, I didn't look that close. I was noticing that tasks that usually run in about 15 minutes were taking close to 30 minutes. Then I noticed that there tasks with gaia in the name (didn't pay attention to upper or lower case) that were using about 50% of the processors. They are gone now and everything has returned to normal processing times. Next time, I pay closer attention. However, whether it was the wrapper or the main task, it was still using CPU resources to the detriment of other processes. |
