Gaia_8 just launched, unclear how many yet or how long to run. All Gaia_7 aborted. Paul. |

It is new app base on 7_Gaia. fix: - shorter time of calculations. - checkpoints I hope , that this version will be better for you. First tasks are create and we are waiting for results..... |

It is new app base on 7_Gaia. can you provide source code for this application? |

It is new app base on 7_Gaia. I never understood why each time you change pieces of code in your application you have to create a new app with a new name, and not a version of existing app, like any standard boinc project ? It is very confusing. Is the purpose of each application really different ? it is not on the same field of research ? |

If we change number of inputs files and all idea of parallel pipeline, we create new numer |

If we change number of inputs files and all idea of parallel pipeline, we create new numer you can create a new app without creating a new subproject. just change the version number. not the number in the name. so something like 7_gaia v1.00 can become 7_gaia v2.00 the way you're doing it is very confusing because usually a new subproject implies a new area of research, not just a new app with bug fixes. it might be better to name the subproject with something more descriptive on what the app actually does. from your description of 7_gaia, it could be something like "Brightness Shift" or whatever you feel is appropriate. unless you're trying to intentionally obfuscate what your projects and apps are really doing for some reason? and again I'll inquire about application source code. BOINC needs more aarch64 linux application choices and if you anticipate having a lot of work available it would be nice to make an app for aarch64, and I am capable and willing to help port the application for you if you do not have any aarch64 devices or cross compilation tools. |

>you can create a new app without creating a new subproject. just change the version number. not the number in the name. >so something like 7_gaia v1.00 can become 7_gaia v2.00 Yes, I know this. When I first created BOINC on the server, I tried using it, but I was learning and didn't know if I was having a problem with the programs or with incorrectly implemented versions. Back then, I worked on creating new subprojects for testing. And that's how it stayed. Now that I have "control" over the system, I have to go back to adding versions. This requires reworking my management programs, testing, and, worse yet, time. >it might be better to name the subproject with something more descriptive on what the app actually does. from your description of 7_gaia, it could be something like "Brightness Shift" or whatever you feel is >appropriate. unless you're trying to intentionally obfuscate what your projects and apps are really doing for some reason? It is not secreat. We continue to work on this topic: https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2023eas..conf.1502D/abstract >and again I'll inquire about application source code. BOINC needs more aarch64 linux application choices and if you anticipate having a lot of work available it would be nice to make an app for aarch64, and I am >capable and willing to help port the application for you if you do not have any aarch64 devices or cross compilation tools. If the program proves to be working correctly and efficiently, I can release it, with the request that it not be distributed externally. My only concern is server performance, as the number of results increases... |

Thanks, no external redistribution is no problem. I have helped create aarch64 compatible apps for several projects already (Einstein@Home, Asteroids@home, minecraft@home, SRBase). mainly with aarch64 CUDA app ports, but simply recompiling a CPU app from x64 to aarch64 is usually fairly straightforward. I'll send you a private message soon. |

How often should this checkpoint? I have seen none so far. Paul. |

The application is able to resume calculations based on the result file (photo.dat) that works in the results appending mode |

All completed tasks are pending validation yet quorum=1. Will this be fixed or will all tasks be wiped again to make Gaia 9? Edit: 156 just validated for 50 credit each. |

Check points do not seem to work here, exited and restarted BOINC and all tasks started from 0% again |

Please check the calculation of time. For example: if the total time is 30 minutes and you stop the task at about 50%, the remaining calculated time should be 15 minutes. Please check this. |

Ok, tried again and now they acted as expected, at which time the first check point is taken? Other comment, tasks still continue executing even if suspended in boincmanager, don't they? |

I paused a Gaia 8 task and via BOINC Tasks it reported in the task properties: CPU time 00:46:39 Elapsed time 00:52:45 I checked again shortly later, while not running CPU time 00:47:37 Elapsed time 00:52:45 Same elapsed as BOINC does not report it was running but there is more CPU time. As others have mentioned, they do not suspend. ------------ I also watched as other tasks completed, two separate tasks resumed at their given % and completed themselves shortly after. Reported % and actual % completed resumed normally. They did not report back to 0% nor did they show 0% but were actually further along. |
