Hi, all my Gaia_8 WU's error similar to this one below. I notice that sometimes my Linux wingman also fails the same . The same machine runs WU's for milkyway & spacious@home fine It's running on a standard Debian 12 machine, GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz [Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6] (2 processors) --- Linux Debian Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) [6.1.0-23-amd64|libc 2.36] Task 114304 Name 8_108765_1 Workunit 109944 Created 29 Jan 2026, 5:25:38 UTC Sent 29 Jan 2026, 5:25:43 UTC Report deadline 8 Feb 2026, 5:25:43 UTC Received 29 Jan 2026, 5:27:06 UTC Server state Over Outcome Computation error Client state Compute error Exit status 195 (0x000000C3) EXIT_CHILD_FAILED Computer ID 7501 Run time 2 sec CPU time Validate state Invalid Credit 0.00 Device peak FLOPS 2.77 GFLOPS Application version 8_Gaia@home v1.00 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu Peak disk usage 1.95 MB Stderr output <core_client_version>7.20.5</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> process exited with code 195 (0xc3, -61)</message> <stderr_txt> 05:25:51 (1550): wrapper (7.15.26016): starting 05:25:51 (1550): wrapper (7.15.26016): starting 05:25:51 (1550): wrapper: running ../../projects/gaiaathome.eu_gaiaathome/8_gaia@home[20260127.1305]_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu () 05:25:52 (1550): 8_gaia@home[20260127.1305] exited; CPU time 0.001034 05:25:52 (1550): app exit status: 0xb 05:25:52 (1550): called boinc_finish(195) </stderr_txt> ]]> the output at startup from boinccmd --get-messages is : 1: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] Starting BOINC client version 7.20.5 for x86_64-pc-linux-gnu 2: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] This a development version of BOINC and may not function properly 3: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 4: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] Libraries: libcurl/7.88.1 OpenSSL/3.0.14 zlib/1.2.13 brotli/1.0.9 zstd/1.5.4 libidn2/2.3.3 libpsl/0.21.2 (+libidn2/2.3.3) libssh2/1.10.0 nghttp2/1.52.0 librtmp/2.3 OpenLDAP/2.5.13 5: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] Data directory: /var/lib/boinc-client 6: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] No usable GPUs found 7: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] libc: version 2.36 8: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] Host name: xxxxxxxxxxxxx 9: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz [Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6] 10: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht tm pbe syscall nx lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl cpuid aperfmperf pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr pdcm lahf_lm tpr_shadow dtherm 11: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] OS: Linux Debian: Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) [6.1.0-23-amd64|libc 2.36] 12: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] Memory: 1.92 GB physical, 975.00 MB virtual 13: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] Disk: 57.45 GB total, 49.95 GB free 14: 29-Jan-2026 06:07:52 (low) [] Local time is UTC +0 hours[/code] |

I would guess the application requires some instructions that your CPU doesnt support, like SSE4 or AVX. |

Did you install libquadmath0 ? |

Did you install libquadmath0 ? that is not necessary with this new application. that was only needed on previous gaia apps. the new app is doing completely different research. also, when you didnt have it (with the OLD app), the error message specifically told you that was the problem. |

I would guess the application requires some instructions that your CPU doesnt support, like SSE4 or AVX. Thanks, that could be it, it had similar problems with Gaia_4 too BTW If so It would be good if the apps section indicated that was a requirement , as this machine does meet the Linux running on an AMD x86_64 or Intel EM64T CPU requirement, and is able to run all work units from asteroids, milkyway, spacious, Rosetta, WCG and einstein without issue The machine needs a refresh so am putting Debian 13 on it tomorrow, I'll see if that helps |

Updated to debian 13 and boinc 8.20, but still errors. I suspect the project needs to feature of the CPU, which while understandable, should really be made clear, or coded around |
