Does anyone know what causes this? It's not happening on all of my computers but it is happening on more than one BOINC project. Is there anything I can do to cure it?

likely some kind of permissions issue. the user not able to write to running slot or something like that.

I've never changed BOINC permissions and they're set as it installed them.
I tried rebooting and the failures continues.
I tried detaching from GAIA and reattaching and the failures continued.
I stop DLing GAIA for a while and when I tried again it's worked since.
Maybe a bad batch of WUs.

Maybe a bad batch of WUs.

they are being resent to other hosts and working fine. so it's not bad WUs.

the error you got is from permissions issues.
just because *you* "didnt change it" doesnt mean it didn't get changed somehow. and you only having this issue on one host is further evidence that it's something that is (or was) wrong on the host itself.
